Introduction: The Fighter is a new Indian Hindi action film directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Viacom 18 Studios and Marflix Pictures. The film stars Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan and Anil Kapoor and is the first film in a planned aerial action series. The movie was announced on January 10, 2021. Pre-production was significantly delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Principal photography finally began in November 2022, with filming progressing on various schedules in Assam, Hyderabad, Jammu and Kashmir, and Mumbai. Real Indian Air Force cadets are working for this film. The film's soundtrack composed by the duo Vishal-Shekhar's album consists of five songs, with Satchi Spaurows serving as the cinematographer. DNEG is in charge of the visuals. The Fighter was originally scheduled to be released in theaters on September 30, 2022, but was postponed due to production delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. After repeated delays, the film is finally scheduled to be released in theaters on January 25, 2024, coinciding with Republic Day.
Pre-Production: Ramon Chibu, a former army officer and author, wrote this story with the help of Siddharth Anand. Anand and his team of writers then developed the film's script during the lockdown under the direction of Hrithik Roshan. Director Akshay Oberoi said the film has "much heavier" action scenes than Pasaan (2023). Anand also retained most of the standard technicians, including cinematographer Sakis Pauloz, editor Aarif Sheikh, stunt choreographer Seyoung Oh, and action director Sunil Rodriguez. Raj Khatri designed the movie's poster in September 2022. Roshan began undergoing workshops and continued with 12 weeks of simulator training, learning the nuances of playing a fighter pilot. His training was supervised by Chris Gethin, who worked his abs and lost weight. In November, he visited the Air Force Base and Air Force Training School in Telangana and also spent time with pilots and cadets, observing their attitudes and understanding how they function. The film had real Indian Air Force cadets working. The cadets arrived by plane from the IAF headquarters in Delhi and the Dundigul Air Force Academy near Hyderabad.
Post-Production: Post-production on the film will begin by early June 2023 once filming on the film is complete and will last six months as the film includes extensive computer graphics and visual effects. His VFX work for this film will be done by DNEG.
Casting: In January 2021, it was officially announced that Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan will be starring together for the first time. Roshan plays Air Force Officer Pati. Roshan revealed his personality as "young, spontaneous and short-tempered". Padukone also plays an air force officer and will have some action scenes in the film. Padukone and Roshan both underwent martial arts training for their roles. Anil Kapoor joined the cast in December 2021. Karan Singh Grover and Akshay Oberoi were cast by November 2022. In March 2023, Talat Aziz joined the cast and played the role of Patty's father in the film. Sanjeeda Shaikh was confirmed to play a key role in May 2023.
Filmming: Principal photography began on November 14, 2022 in Assam. Roshan, Padukone and Kapoor participated in this schedule which was held at Tezpur Air Force Base. The team returned to Mumbai on November 28, 2022 after completing a 10-day first schedule in Assam. In the second schedule, the team traveled to Kashmir on February 6, 2023. Akshay Oberoi has also joined this schedule. The team returned to Mumbai on February 12 after filming in Pahalgam, Kashmir, where they shot songs choreographed by Sunil Rodriguez and some action scenes. The third schedule took place at the Dundigul Air Force Academy in Hyderabad, where Roshan's character was shot as an airman. Forced cadets in training. The third schedule ended in his March 6th in Hyderabad and on March 19th, Roshan started shooting for the fourth schedule in Mumbai at his bungalow. Talat Aziz also joined the cast in this schedule and some emotional scenes were shot. The month-long schedule was reported to end on April 24th. Kapoor shared a behind-the-scenes video of her training schedule in minus 110 degrees Celsius via Instagram. The team also shot a 25-minute climactic scene, including an action sequence, which reportedly took 120 hours (five days) to film. For the upcoming schedule, production designer Rajat Poddar and his team built a vast set to house the interiors of the Air Force base, classrooms and offices at Yash Raj Studios in Mumbai. The next schedule started on May 14 with Padukone, Roshan, Kapoor and Grover joining the schedule. On May 19, the team shot the Padukone-Kapoor pairing scenes over three days at Chamba in Mysore Colony. Emotional scenes between Padukone and Roshan were shot in Chandivali from May 22, but only 20-30 extras were included to avoid leaking footage of the film online. The Mumbai schedule was completed in mid-June. Roshan spent 12 days photographing the interior of the Sukhoi Su-30MKI. In late August, a song featuring Roshan and Padukone, choreographed by the Bosco-Caesar duo, was shot.
Release Date: The Fighter is scheduled to be released on January 25, 2024, coinciding with Republic Day, and it was announced in early January 2021 that the film will be released on September 30, 2022. In October 2022, the release date was announced as January 25, 2024.
